Description

Batroun Mountains is a family-owned winery dedicated to producing wines that reflect the values of the Hark family. The vineyards are located in the mountains of the Batroun District across six different towns at altitudes ranging from 400 to 1,500 meters above sea level. Batroun, a coastal city, is located fifty kilometers north of Beirut and 29 kilometers south of Tripoli.

Mountain viticulture is challenging and labor-intensive due to the rocky nature of the fields, primarily because the grapes are grown on narrow terraced vineyards. Terraces require constant maintenance and repair, and the maneuverability of equipment such as tractors and shredders is limited. The vines struggle in this dry, well-drained stony soil, producing high-quality grapes with well-concentrated juice of intense flavor and color. This struggle makes the grapes and the wines dynamic.

At Batroun Mountains, the family focuses on every step of the winemaking process, believing that a quality bottle of wine is made in the vineyard, not the winery. The grapes in each of the six Batroun Mountains vineyards are carefully selected from the finest organically grown grapes to guarantee the excellence of the final product. The Batroun Mountains winery is a family adventure where every individual plays a role in the cultivation, production, bottling, or marketing phases of winemaking.

The individual effort of each family member reflects the shared goal of care and appreciation for the craft. The mountainous region of the Batroun District nestles against Lebanon's northwestern coast and continues east into the mountains. At altitudes from sea level to 2,000 meters, the air shifts from the salty taste of the sea to the cool and fresh crispness of the mountains. Winding roads snake through the ridges and valleys as if hiding the landscape's secrets from visitors.

The Batroun Mountains vineyards line the slopes on carefully designed terraces to allow the grapes maximum sun exposure. Olive trees sway while the vines reach for the sky, one after another, seeking support. Every element of the landscape adds personality to the bottle of wine. Opening a bottle of Batroun Mountains wine reveals the taste and scent of mountain coolness, the secrets of the hills, the struggle of the vine, a neighboring olive branch, and the faintest hint of the sea below. Every bottle tells a story.
